cabaret | boylesque

Since 2010, I have been presenting short-form, alternative cabaret/variety performances in various contexts, from drag shows in Dublin’s Pantibar and the George; cabarets in Manchester and London; and festivals such as Electric Picnic (2018), Body and Soul (2016), Outburst in Belfast (2015), Dublin Pride (2014/15) and EuroPride in Warsaw (2010). These performances incorporate original music, storytelling, surprising cover versions, self-designed costumes, physical theatre, clowning, burlesque and, following on from Cabaret Mattachine (see below) I have been presenting them under the stage name Stefan Fae.

The Gospel According to Twink

(GlitterHOLE @ IMMA, 2019)

Recitations from panto queen Twink (Adele King)’s autobiography, followed by a verbatim performance of her infamous answering machine message to her ex-husband. This piece was commissioned in homage to Derek Jarman, as part of GlitterHOLE in the Club Chroma space at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, during the recent Jarman exhibition “PROTEST.” The cape and papal mitre (which are self-made) are pvc – after Jarman’s similar effort, as documented in the exhibition – with Twink's various magazine covers embedded in it.

Babooshka Boylesque

(Space N’ Veda @ The George, 2014)

First devised for an anti-Putin cabaret that coincided with the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in 2014.

Blue (da ba dee)

(Queertopia @ The Black Box, 2017)

A version of Eiffel 65’s 1999 Italo dance hit, re-imagined as a commentary on post-marriage equality Ireland, which featured in OVERFIRED (above).

Gone With The Wind Clown

(Samuel Beckett Theatre, 2013)

A clowning turn, first devised as part of Academy of Clowns at The Samuel Beckett Theatre, directed by Barrabas co-founder Raymond Keane.

Short Mountain (I Believe)

(Spiegeltent, Tiger Dublin Fringe 2015)

An original song, first written for Cabaret Mattachine (below).
